How can we help?

Answers to common questions, and a direct line to us when you need one.

Need help right now?

Unhook isn't an emergency service. If you're in danger or having a medical emergency, call your local emergency number (911 in the US). For free, confidential help quitting in the US, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW. If you're having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988.

Getting started

Do I need an account to use Unhook?

No. Everything works on your phone without one. An account backs up your progress so you can restore it on a new phone, and it's needed to join the community or create an accountability link.

I've already stopped smoking hookah. Is Unhook still for me?

Yes. Choose Stay hookah-free when you pick your plan and set your quit date to the day you last smoked — your streak picks up from there.

How are money saved and sessions avoided worked out?

From the sessions per week and cost per session you entered when you set up, counted from your quit date or your last relapse, whichever is later. You'll find both numbers on your profile.

Cravings and slips

What should I do when a craving hits?

Open the Cravings tab and tap I'm having a craving. A guided reset walks you through the next few minutes, and every craving you beat is counted.

I slipped. Have I lost everything?

No. Log it in More → Calendar. Your current count restarts from that moment, but your earlier clean days stay in your history and your best run is kept. One slip doesn't undo the work you've done.

Breathing

How does the breathing test work?

It uses your phone's microphone to measure how long and how steadily you can breathe out. The sound is analysed on your phone and never recorded — only your score is kept.

Your score is a personal trend to watch over the weeks, not a medical test.

The breathing test can't hear me.

Check that Unhook is allowed to use the microphone in your iPhone's Settings → Unhook. Then try again somewhere quiet, holding your phone a few centimetres from your mouth and breathing out steadily.

Account and backup

How do I move my progress to a new phone?

Install Unhook on the new phone and tap Already have an account on the first screen. Sign in with the same email and your streak, logs and journal come back.

I forgot my password.

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and follow the steps in the email we send you.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings (the gear on the Home screen) and tap Delete account. If you can't get into the app, see Delete your account.

Sharing and community

What does my accountability partner see?

Your first name, quit date, current and best run, the dates of recent relapses, how many cravings you've beaten, breathing sessions this week, and estimated sessions avoided and money saved. Never your email, journal, reasons, symptoms or notes.

Stop or replace your link at any time in More → Accountability — the old link stops working immediately.

How do I report a post or a person in the community?

Tap the ••• button on the post to report it or mute its author. Reported posts are reviewed within 24 hours. Read the Community Guidelines for what's allowed.

Is Unhook free?

Yes, for now. If paid features are added later, you'll see the price and terms in the app before you buy anything.
